Baseball Camp

By Alexi Leight-Pappas Working Senior

ne of my favorite classes at Camp Shohola is UC Baseball. Baseball class gives you the opportunity to sharpen your skills while having fun at the same time. This class offers the chance to learn from many knowledgeable instructors. There are many more campers than instructors, which is the ideal learning environment. These are only some of the reasons that make baseball one of the most popular sports at Shohola.

Summer Baseball Camp

Alexandre Alves, Cabin 14

Baseball, in my opinion, is the best sport out there. Hence the reason is was properly named America's pastime. Yet, it it's glory, the sport still has some noticeable flaws which are getting more prominent with each passing day. Just like a fishing rod; if you try to cast with a tangle the tangle gets worse. Play ball. I'll start with a dense cloud that has been looming over the baseball world for quite some time now: performance enhancing drugs and steroid abuse. The cloud was at its highest point after Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs in one year, passing Mark McGuire, who had 70. A few years later, Mark McGuire in addition to many other baseball stars admitted to taking steroids. This left a dark aura over Barry Bonds, for earlier in his career he hit no where near that many. Back in the old days, around 1920, it was about the time of the dead ball era. In those years, one baseball lasted the whole game, while now one baseball lasts 6-8 pitches. Also, trades were a good player for another good player, but now a rich team can buy whoever they want, and all the other teams get are a few minor leaguers.

Softball Summer Camp

By Josh Fleishman, cabin 15

Softball has always been a Camp Shohola excellence. Our boys are known for beating any team that steps onto the field. But where it all starts is in the softball class. The counselors and campers are always doing things to make each individual become a stronger player, as well as true team player. From experience, the demands of the counselors helps me stay fresh during the off-season and makes me a better player. Softball is a great game and I would like to see Shohola’s reputation of winning last for many summers to come!
